In April of 2003, four of my as-yet-unpublished short stories were chosen by Sally Shore's New Short Fiction Series to be presented at the Beverly Hills Library in a readers' theatre format. The New Short Fiction Series is now the longest-running spoken-word series in Los Angeles and, at the time, was partially funded by the LA Department of Cultural Affairs. Besides being honored to have my work selected, I loved how it felt to have my words read by actors in front of a live audience. I liked it so much that that summer I enrolled for a beginning playwriting workshop through UCLA Extension.

Although I'd always enjoyed live theatre, I hadn't read scripts since taking a course in the modern American theatre at UC Berkeley as an undergraduate. Now, under the guidance of our stellar teacher/playwright/director, Simon Levy, I consumed a steady diet of some of the world's best writing for the stage. Simon's focus on history and structure gave us tools to better understand playwrights from Shakespeare to Kushner as well as how to approach our own dramatic efforts.

I continued to study with Simon through the end of the beginning workshop, the intermediate workshop, and at least two iterations of the advanced workshop. If we hadn't moved back to Sonoma County, I would have continued to take the advanced workshop at least once a year.

My plays to date are listed on this site. If you would like to read any one of the scripts, please let me know.
