A Circle of Elephants

"The connected stories that together make up A Circle of Elephants explore the lives of Charlotte Evelyn Albert (The Queen of Kansas), her second husband, her children, and their extended family as they forge new futures in mid-20th century Los Angeles. This comes on the heels of her angry separation and divorce – her near-failed attempts to provide for her two boys – and her resolution never to speak nor hear the name of her former husband again.   A Circle of Elephants takes place between 1948 and 1957. This post World War II era is characterized by sweeping social, economic, and political changes that both benefit and damage Charlotte and her family. Through these stories, A Circle of Elephants animates topics such as organized crime, adoption, suburbs, Hollywood, anti-Communism, health gurus, religion, race relations, the LA garment industry, and more."
